Emley Playschool

Earlier in the year I spent the afternoon at Emley Playschool taking some photos for their new website, which has just gone live this last week.

My main aim was to capture images that would show the kids at play in a very naturalistic light with nothing too staged if I could help it, although the kids at Emley Playschool were such willing subjects that often I would find that I was the focus of their attention as oppose to their play, which brought something unexpected but equally rewarding to the mix. The only criteria given to me by the playschool was to avoid showing the kid’s faces, as this dates the website very quickly, so there’s a certain anonymity to the photos, but I don’t mind that at all as I think it focuses the attention on the activity rather than the child.

I’d wanted to reflect something of the carefree world that kids of three and four inhabit, and present an unashamedly rose tinted view of this first stage of their education. Luckily, with it being late February when the shoot took place, the sun came out and shone gloriously for most of the afternoon, which I hope only served to ramp up the nostalgia factor! See what you think.
