Recently I spent a day with Mark Sturgess at Soundstation Studios in Wakefield, the primary purpose being to master my album which I have finally completed after three and a half years! Obviously, I wasn’t working on in day in day out for all that time, slaving over a hot mixing desk, fretting over every single note…. No, the main reason for the elongated gestation period was cash, or to be specific, the lack thereof. Record a bit, save up a lot, record a bit, save up a lot and repeat. I reckon the actual time spent in the studio was around three weeks, so that’s not too bad I don’t think, after all it took The Beatles months to knock out Sgt Pepper’s… Sorry, what was that about a masterpiece?
While I was with Mark I took a few pictures, as it had occurred to me that I’d been so focused on the recording/mixing process that I hadn’t had time to document any of it visually, which in retrospect I think is a shame, but hey. The images I have captured are not intended as being a showcase for the studio, although I’d very much like to do that also, but as a document of a working environment within the time frame that I was present there. Cheers.
